happy halloween!

Inspired by the new website being up, we created this poster for the gallery that includes the correct hours.

Also, tonight is Bad Gothic Poetry night for the Fine Line. Dress up and bring your bad gothic poetry!

The Fine Line

Last Wednesday evening, the Kauffman Gallery hosted the first session of The Fine Line (a weekly poetry reading series). We had a modest turn out (about a dozen people), but almost everyone brought something to read. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and hopefully they will be back this week with friends!

putting up the Cole Welter show

Setting up the Cole Welter show presented some interesting challenges, such as bolting two giant canvas frames together ...twice. It was a lot of fun though. Cole entertained us with stories about the Rothko chapel and different artists he'd met.

gallery update!

The past few weeks we've been working on the gallery website, which we hope to have up as soon as possible. It'll have the gallery's mission statement, pictures from past shows, and a schedule of event... Hopefully past, present, and prospective art students will use the website as well as local artists looking to visit the gallery.

As for happenings in the gallery, we've had two shows so far this semester and we're in the middle of some down-time before the third. The first show was the student fashion show, where Professor Dolbin's 3D design students displayed their creations for his fashion design project. The reception was HUGE and included a dj and a runway show. Everyone was really enjoying it, and a few of the student models went back for another round. Sean Dye, a painter from Vermont, visited as well and had a few discussions with students on the philosophy and technique of his art.

This week we'll be distributing the invitations for the next show, Cole Welter, who sets up this weekend. We're also finishing up a poster for that show to try to get a little more publicity. We are also developing an idea that will bridge the art department and the english department, where we'll use our Wednesday evening hours to host a poetry reading in the gallery. The tentative name for these nights right now is "the Fine Line."

That's all for now!
