Holiday Cheer for your Knob!

Today we made doorknob hangers to advertise the holiday art sale from our "Ho Ho Van Gogh" design from the website. You can see them all around the art building, the CUB, and Old Main.

The Holiday Art Sale will be held in the Kauffman Gallery from December 10-13, 9am to 5pm.

fine line update

The Fine Line has had a consistent group of about 9-12 people each week. Most bring original work to read, some bring published poetry that they like, and others just listen and enjoy. So far we've had Bad Gothic Poetry night (on Halloween), sonnet night, haiku night, and next week is centos.

Taking Pictures

Last Tuesday we kidnapped Zach Carey, and took pictures of all of the sculpture around campus for the sculpture tour booklet.

in progress:

Today we're working on another "seedling" where we're creating a brochure that contains all the sculptures on campus - designed for a walking tour. It has a subway theme:

Also, in preparation for what comes after our current show by Jason Green, we're getting ready for the Holiday Art Sale & Art Education Student Work. Here's what we've come up with for a poster idea, which we affectionately call "Ho Ho Van Gogh."

gallery maintenance

Katey taking down the Cole Welter show and vacuuming the gallery carpet.

We had a busy/productive day today.

We vacuumed the gallery, addressed about 830 post cards and got them sent off, digitized slides for professor Dolbin, updated the website (with only a few new errors), and put up posters for the Jason Green show (which is pretty awesome).

Phew.

happy halloween!

Inspired by the new website being up, we created this poster for the gallery that includes the correct hours.

Also, tonight is Bad Gothic Poetry night for the Fine Line. Dress up and bring your bad gothic poetry!

The Fine Line

Last Wednesday evening, the Kauffman Gallery hosted the first session of The Fine Line (a weekly poetry reading series). We had a modest turn out (about a dozen people), but almost everyone brought something to read. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and hopefully they will be back this week with friends!

putting up the Cole Welter show

Setting up the Cole Welter show presented some interesting challenges, such as bolting two giant canvas frames together ...twice. It was a lot of fun though. Cole entertained us with stories about the Rothko chapel and different artists he'd met.

gallery update!

The past few weeks we've been working on the gallery website, which we hope to have up as soon as possible. It'll have the gallery's mission statement, pictures from past shows, and a schedule of event... Hopefully past, present, and prospective art students will use the website as well as local artists looking to visit the gallery.

As for happenings in the gallery, we've had two shows so far this semester and we're in the middle of some down-time before the third. The first show was the student fashion show, where Professor Dolbin's 3D design students displayed their creations for his fashion design project. The reception was HUGE and included a dj and a runway show. Everyone was really enjoying it, and a few of the student models went back for another round. Sean Dye, a painter from Vermont, visited as well and had a few discussions with students on the philosophy and technique of his art.

This week we'll be distributing the invitations for the next show, Cole Welter, who sets up this weekend. We're also finishing up a poster for that show to try to get a little more publicity. We are also developing an idea that will bridge the art department and the english department, where we'll use our Wednesday evening hours to host a poetry reading in the gallery. The tentative name for these nights right now is "the Fine Line."

That's all for now!

First post! The post that hurts the most.

Katey helped set up the fashion show the weekend before classes began. The night of the fashion show, Marie assisted professor Dolbin in announcing each of the models while Katey made sure everyone was dressed and ready to go on. The runway fashion show was the first event of the semester in the Kauffman Gallery and it was a success!
